Oral Roberts’ Son Arrested for Allegedly Speeding, Driving Drunk in Okla., Christian News
No one is a smaller fan of Richard Roberts and his ministry than I am. I consider his theology and ministry to be terribly misguided and a blemish on all that the true Gospel and Scripture stand for. But this is no time to cast stones. I’m praying for him, his family, and all those who follow him. I pray for all of those whose faith might falter due to this news. For, no matter the sin or the sinner in question, I couldn’t be more thankful that our Heavenly Father is a God of mercy, grace, forgiveness, and multiple second chances. And I write knowing this redemptive truth applies more to me than anyone else I know.

I would do better to pray more often for all sinners, both redeemed and lost.

Were all human, no one mightier than the next… thank God were not all perfect, there would be no reason for redemption. In 1999 I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer, given 3 days to live, lost 80-90 lbs. and I remembered Richard visiting a friend of mine (Blacky Gonsalez) in Santa Fe, NM. They prayed for me and I am still here today, cancer free, no radiation, no chemotherapy. Yes they took my kidney with a tumor the size of an NFL Football according to my doctor it full of cancer. I’ve been on my death bed 3-times in my life, God in His Infamous Grace has had Mercy on me and used this man as a vessel to reach out to me in a time of desparation. Richard, if you get a hold of this message, lift up your hands and repent and move on with the work that has been given to you to complete. I have your back as well as countless of thousands of Saints of God.
Be of good courage and move on, it will be tough but not impossible with His Great Love.

So true…we should all be praying for this family, especially Richard and Lindsay.
I am a Christian and single mom. I try so hard to walk uprightly before God daily. I strive to live a sinless life, but often come up short. I have followed R.R. ministries for years and it is painful to see this happen. I look to leaders of the church for guidance and an example and then find out that they are doing wrong things that I gave up years ago.
Paul said to “Follow me as I follow Christ.” At what point do you decide someone isn’t worth listening to anymore?
My faith in God does not depend on the actions of others, but I can see how things like this can be disorienting to some believers.

April,
I appreciate your post, your words are sincere as well as your heart. Like you said “Paul stated-Follow me as I follow Christ”, What would Christ do after hearing about RR messing up ? Have him stoned ? Place him in prison ? Separate him from his faith for being a hypocrite ? I think not, the Word says “Confess your faults one to another and pray for one another.” I bet he has been on his face for the last couple of days crying out to God due to his stupidity and lack of judgement. The embarrassment and hurt it has caused the Ministry as well as his family is almost unpardonable—or is it ? Let us never forget what the Blood of Christ is all about. I look at the Cross everyday for help, there’s times when I think of the numerous failures I have caused in my own life and the hurt I have caused my family and yet my family forgave me and had mercy on me, but most of all, Jesus forgave me and covered my sins with His Blood he shed on Calvary.
Jesus has already forgiven RR, the question is—can his flock do the same ?
I don’t really know the man except for praying for me one time 13 yrs ago when I was dying of stage four kidney cancer. I never followed him or his teachings, I didn’t have too, you see April, God used Richard as a vessel to reach out to me with a word of encouragement in time of need when I was crying out to God for help.
April – God has never given-up on me despite all my faults, I’ve picked myself up from some messes with the help of God & other Christians and have learned how to give back with the Love of God. I’ve worked in Prisons for over 27 years, a Warden since 2005, 15yrs in Maximum alone. Who are we to judge another man when God Himself lives within the hearts of men on Death Row who have repented & been forgiven by His Precious Blood.
We all make mistakes April, and His Love and Grace is sufficient to forgive us. God Bless you and your children April.

Richard Roberts is a con man. His DUI this week clearly demonstrates that, no matter what he calls himself, he is NOT a Christian in any real sense. Here are some reasons why we can know this is true:
A) God does not use drunks or liars. God has written this in His Word. No amount of spinning and blather about “forgiveness” and “tolerance” will change what God says about drunken liars.
B) What drunken, lying Richard Roberts has done (with his DUI) breaks the majority of God’s commandments:
-Thou shalt have no other gods before me…including self and alcohol.
-Thou shalt not take the name of Lord thy God in vain…by professing to be a Christian while not possessing Christ as Saviour.
-Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy…not preaching in it while harboring secret sins in one’s heart.
-Honor thy father and mother…by not disgracing their memories in living a profligate and wicked life.
-Thou shalt not murder…either oneself by abuse of alcohol or potentially others by careening around drunk at 100 miles per hour in a luxury car bought using money taken from little old ladies under false pretenses.
-Thou shalt not steal…by taking money from little old ladies under false pretenses.
-Thou shalt not bear false witness…by parading around as a “man of God” while living a (no longer secret) life which denies God.
Richard Roberts is a con man, and his con is now exposed. Anyone who knows the facts and continues to support him from now on deserves to lose their money. God can and will sort everything out on the great and final day. Until then, let’s not we the name the Name that is above every name be fools and dupes. Richard Roberts is a hindrance to the cause of Christ. Let us be clear about that and act accordingly.

Lol…no offense, David, but I must have missed the whole deal about drunken liars while I was paying attention to how God and Jesus used murderers and adulterers throughout the line of Abraham and apostles to take us to forgiveness by the blood of Christ and spread the word of God. To God, a sin is a sin as a sin–and all sins are forgiven through a repentent heart. A sin of my mind is no less of a sin than that of a murderer. I choose to leave judgment of this man to God who is the only one privvy to his true heart. If memory serves me correct, judgment itself is punishable by God (Matthew).

Thank you Allison for your post. I thank my heavenly Father for paying such a price on Calvary, for the Precious Blood He Shed for our sins. God Bless You.

Oh come on Allison. Your answer is appropriate for a 6 year old, not an adult. Of course God allowed ex-harlots and ex-thieves into the lineage of Christ, for ALL men and women have sinned. God HAD to let EX-sinners in, that’s the only kind of humans there are!
The really beautiful thing about Jacob and Rahab and David is that they repented and lived the rest of their lives as Sons and Daughters of the Most High God, walking in the Statutes of Life (Ezekiel 33). There is a huge, HUGE difference between Rahab being grafted in and accepted in the beloved after many years of horrible sin and Richard Roberts, professing for years to be a devout and faith-filled Christian and then living a secret life which denies God
Sheesh. This childish, weak and ridiculous nonjudgemental foolishness that you and others trot out every time you’re really just afraid to take a firm and biblical stand against sin is really silly. And it’s unbiblical.
Statistics show clearly that a person who gets caught drunk driving has usually been driving and drinking regularly for years before they get caught. So it is extremely likely, indeed almost certain, that Roberts has made drunkeness and impaired driving habits for a long time. To me, this incident makes it clear that his ministry is at very best insincere, and is really just a means of self enrichment. And the sheer cheek and shamelessness of this pagan is breathtaking. Even tonight he will be on television acting as if nothing had happened, faking Godliness just as he apparently has done from day one.
You can weasel out and be afraid to take a biblical stand and contort scriptures by bringing up some foolish non point about ex sinners in the lineage of Messiah if you want, but
A) You sound ridiculous and
B) Your refusal to call sin sin makes it possible for vermin like Roberts to prey upon people and thrive.
I need a shower.

Friends, Although acknowledging differences of opinions and firmly held beliefs, I would graciously ask that this discussion, if it must continue, be taken off-line. This blog is not designed as a forum for argument but a place where Jesus is to be honored and glorified. I’m not suggesting that any party in this discussion is right or wrong but only ask that you respect this blog and its purpose – which is to point people to Jesus and exalt Him above all else. I pray that we all see Him in all of His beauty, and that compels us to fix our spiritual eyes upon Him; our Savior, Lord,Hope, and Judge. Grace to you! Linden
